A
few
weeks
back
I had
seen
a flyer that was
being
passed
out regarding
the
“Relocation of 3000 Refugees to Dover” They were
told
to be coming
from the
Congo. What would that look like? How would
that change
the infrastructure
of Dover? And
you
can be sure
they
wouldn’t just
be staying
in Dover, they
would be coming
to Rochester and
Somersworth as well.
The
flyer reads
like this,
“The proposal
is believed
to have
a plan
to move
100 families
(each
containing
3-5 members)
each
year
to Dover from now
until the
community
“surrenders
and
requests
the
flow
to stop,
(similar
to Manchester NH, and
Lewiston, ME) but
the
government
decides
when
enough
is enough,
NOT the
local
community.
The
Federal government
would support
these
families
for
8 months,
and
then
it’s
up
to the
community
and
state
to bear
the
financial
burden…”
Keep
in mind
the
government
does
not support
any
program
on its own.
It actually comes out of our pockets.
The information gets into the paper followed by backlash from the residents of Dover. The group involved in the relocation process is called ‘The Organization for Refugee and Immigration Success’ or ORIS. A quick look into the ORIS website and you will see that they claim that they rely on private donations, but further clicking will show you that they get donations, Hmm, let me rephrase that, they get our tax money from the USDA. So they exist because of our tax dollars and when they plant these illegals into our community, they will expect us to feed, clothe, shelter, and educate with more of our money. What about the needs that already exist in our community? What about the already overburdened in the School Departments in our Tri-city area? What about our legal citizens that are having a hard time finding jobs?
A day or so after the backlash started, ORIS decided to cancel their proposal that they had planned to give Dover City council on August 13th. (That was last night). When talking to other area townspeople, you will find that this just means they won’t be bringing them in the front door. Instead, they will just show up through the back. (As they have done in Manchester and Lewiston ME.)
At last night’s Dover City Council meeting, close to a dozen Dover residents spoke out during public comment. Almost all of them made excellent points that fell on most, but not all, of the glassy-eyed City. Councilors. I say almost, because there was one guy that really just needed to sit down and shut up. He wasn’t helping. If he has any points to make in the future, he probably should just let his wife speak. She was awesome. After Public comment, most of the crowd filed out, and the meeting went onto awards for some well deserving city employees. We were out in the hallway still talking when we heard that the Mayor had moved on and was addressing the concerns brought up in public comment. She mentioned that they were coming from war torn countries. That we should want to help them. That we were misinformed on many of the facts. Things got heated and I noticed the police chief stood up, making is presence more noticeable. Madam Mayor would make a statement and would be met with comments shouted out from the audience. (Also, that rude guy)
When Rick and I left we noticed several cops standing in one of the exits, as if waiting to see if they were going to be needed, and several police cars in the parking lot, just driving around.
I am writing about this because it is a big deal, and Fosters doesn’t give you what I would consider, the full “Inconvenient Truth” Dover, Somersworth and Rochester Mayors have all signed a letter asking a few questions about this relocation plan. They all signed the letter according to Mayor Karen Weston. I did not catch who they sent it to. Mayor Gatsas of Manchester has been talking about what is happening in Manchester for a long time now. I recently heard from someone that is well-respected that it will totally the culture. Not being a racist. Really hate feeling like I have to preface something before I speak, but…These people are from a different culture. You say, “what do you mean?” Well, Manchester’s crime rate had gone up. Guess what? They have machete fights. They come from a different culture. To bring in hundreds, at one time isn’t going to work out well for us or them. Our city budgets, especially schools and police departments cannot handle this. And we already have an unsustainable welfare and Medicaid system. Just Saying.
