Doing our part, gets Advocacy groups out politics, "Sharing is Caring"

Have you ever wondered whyspecial interest groups ask for money? I’m not talking about the starving child in a third world nation or the image of the sad, little, pathetic dog with yucky eyes that stream across our television screens. I am talking about the groups that are usually associated with a particular political party. I wonder about this all the time. Sometimes I get frustrated when they call and start off asking for $500 and when shot down they go to $250, then $150 and so on. When I googled ‘special interest groups  the Wiki site was the first to pop up, and then I was redirected to a page titled ‘Advocacy groupthis is copied from that page “Advocacy groups (also known as pressure groups, lobby groups, campaign groups, interest groups, or special interest groups) use various forms of advocacy to influence public opinion and/or policy; they have played and continue to play an important part in the development of political and social systems. Groups vary considerably in size, influence, and motive; some have wide ranging long term social purposes, others are focused and are a response to an immediate issue or concern.

Here are my thoughts on how to stop getting those phone calls. If the people that we elect to our state or federal government were serious about upholding the Constitution, groups like these, asking for money would be totally unnecessary. The last phone call I got from a special interest was from the NRA. Now I am a card carrying, gun carrying, 2nd Amendment preaching, life member of the NRA. When I repeatedly shot down a request for money, the paid caller was getting a little frustrated, as was I. Finally I asked how would me sending more money to them going to help fight for my constitutional right to protect myself? Is not every person that holds office in the state and federal government required to put their hand on the Bible and swear an oath to uphold the Constitution? If they are not doing that, why are they still in office? She had no answers. I think I have come up with some. There are some in office that have lied. Plan and simple. They never intended on keeping that oath. The problem is that we have continued to allow them to stay in office while lying and twisting our nation into something it was never meant to be. At the DC level, they get paid very well to sit in the seat we have put them in. Many have sat in that seat term after term, decades really. Seriously, we need to take more than a passing glance at the elected at all levels, local, state and federal and if they are not upholding our constitutional rights, it is time for them to return their home towns so that they can see what a mess they have made for us. They are the elected, they are NOT the elect. We are a republic, not a hierarchical society, which means it’s up to us to set things right.

Never before has this responsibility of knowing who our legislators are been easier. When I was growing up we had 3 channels, and waited for the 6’oclock news to come on and.. ahem, actually report factual news. Candidates for office would parade through our towns in tour buses and hold town meetings. Now, once in seat they are put in, you never see them, and on the rare occasion that there is a meet and greet, they never really answer questions put to them, or they temper the answers to the audience to whom they are speaking. Today , you can let your fingers do the walking. Today when you hear a candidate for US Senator, who says that they are a 2nd amendment supporter you can actually look up related votes to see if it is true. You might even be able to find a YouTube video to hear an inconsistent sound bite in his own words.

The bottom line is there is no excuse for not knowing who is running for office, and if they have our individual liberties in mind. If they support our country, our families, our freedom of speech, our freedom to worship, our American way of life. There are many resources and many people like myself trying to get the word out to make it easier for "The People” to make informed and educated decisions. Social Networking sites make it easier to share what you have learned. All you have to do it clickshare.’ This is grassroots Baby! This is free! This is the way it needs to be done to make a real and effective difference in our country in such a time as this. The concept of ‘sharing’ is not new. The point here is that special interest or advocacy groups should be unnecessary. We have the means and resources to hold them all accountable.

Speaking to all of you who grew up in the 80’s, remember the Faberge shampoo commercial where Heather Locklear loves her shampoo, and she tells two friends and they tell two friends, and so on…Yup, its kind like that, 'sharing'. Incidentally, I couldn’t remember what the brand name was for that shampoo commercial, but it took me all of 12 seconds to find it.
